Zaytuna College is America's first accredited Muslim liberal arts college that offers a bachelor of arts degree in Islamic law and theology and a master’s degree in Islamic texts. The Position

Reporting to the senior director of development, the development programs manager works across College departments to construct, manage, and scale all development programs, with a central focus on increasing donor engagement. The primary responsibility of this role revolves around the implementation and scaling of our 12,000 Strong monthly giving program that is aimed at expanding awareness and support for Zaytuna College. This includes but is not limited to collaborating with the Marketing team to develop and disseminate requisite marketing content, working with the bookstore and Advancement Operations team to facilitate all stewardship activities toward program members, and regularly using the database to update donor profiles and suggest major gift candidates to the senior director of development. Secondary responsibilities focus on supporting Zaytuna’s broader development strategy as it relates to fundraising events and subsidiary donor programs, such as commencement and biannual retreats in the summer. Finally, the development programs manager is also tasked with inaugurating Zaytuna College’s Alumni Association as an arm of Advancement’s long-term strategy. Driving such programming requires a deep understanding of the mission and values of Zaytuna College, and the ability to effectively support and communicate them, especially to external audiences.

Essential Functions

The following are the primary day-to-day responsibilities for this position. These are not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. 

  • Support the relaunch and management of our 12,000 Strong (reoccurring giving) program for the College to meet agreed-upon fundraising goals
  • Evolve the vision of the 12,000 Strong program and how it aligns with Zaytuna College’s vision
  • Maintain and align the 12,000 Strong program calendar with Advancement, Zaytuna In Your Community, Student Life, and the academic events calendar
  • Produce quarterly program updates for management
  • Oversee program and content design, faculty/speaker engagement, logistics, speaker travel, event promotion, fees and payments; work closely with the special event manager with regard to event management
  • Communicate expectations with support staff, volunteers, hosts, and faculty/speakers
  • Build partnerships and alliances with local organizations and leaders
  • Represent Zaytuna College in speaking roles, as needed/requested
  • Collaborate with internal teams and partners to develop campaigns and increase brand awareness for specific business units with Zaytuna College, including undergraduate and graduate admissions
  • Support all event-based fundraising efforts, such as program creation, regional cabinet support, marketing/administrative support, and basic event planning functions
  • Coordinate biannual donor retreats and annual commencement gatherings for key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Zaytuna In Your Community and support its alignment with ongoing fundraising strategies 
  • Support donor visits to campus via campus tours, meetings coordination, catering, etc.
  • Devise a framework and strategy for formalizing Zaytuna College’s alumni association 
  • Collaborate with the Office for Institutional Effectiveness to pool all data and determine best course of action 
  • Develop and standardize regular alumni engagement activities/outputs to sustain and grow alumni relationships 
  • Steer alumni engagement to support all Advancement activities, such as fundraisers, speaking engagements, and profiles for marketing support
Qualifications and Requirements

Education/Certification 

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business or nonprofit management, or a related field
  • An MBA or related graduate degree preferred 

Experience and Ability

  • Minimum of 2 years in progressively responsible leadership roles, preferably in higher education institutions and the nonprofit sector
  • Ability to integrate Zaytuna College’s vision, mission, and values into all aspects of operations
  • Strong leadership and influence skills, with the ability to gain support from volunteers, community members, and teammates at Zaytuna College
  • Broad-based experience in strategic planning, program and project management, community relations, donor relations, marketing communications, and event management
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; when appropriate, proactively communicate with donors, community leaders, and Zaytuna College senior leadership team members
  • Experience using CRM systems
  • Experience working with Blackbaud products, such as Raiser’s Edge, preferred
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong organization skills, with high attention to details; ability to prioritize work effectively and adjust to multiple demands
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings
  • Travel up to 50%
