The Praised One ﷺ in World Scriptures

A live YouTube event with President Hamza Yusuf on October 19, 2021

This live session will occur on Zaytuna College's YouTube channel on Tuesday, October 19, at 5:00 PM PDT.

Salman al-Farisi, whose journey from Persia in search of the truth led him to Medina, had heard from Christian monks stories of the last prophet who would appear soon in the land of the palms. In the New Testament, John the Baptist (peace be upon him) was asked, “Are you that prophet?” referring to a prophet other than the coming Messiah. The Old Testament speaks of those to come. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, praised more than any other human being in history—by hundreds of millions of people every day—was foretold by many seers, sages, and prophets. This talk will look at some of the clear references as well as some of the more obscure ones which indicate that many knew of the advent of the last prophet to humanity. Celebrate with us the birth of the Chosen One, whose light and guidance still illuminate and direct countless souls fourteen hundred and fifty years later.

October 9 | The Wisdom of Revelation

Dr. Mona Hassan

Premiering on YouTube at 6am PDT Saturday, October 9, 2021

Wisdom, in prophetic teaching, is the rightful property of believers wherever they find it. The Prophet’s life embodied and exemplified wisdom. God tells us in the Qur’an that He sent the Prophet ﷺ to convey God’s revelatory signs to us, purify our hearts, and teach us scripture and impart wisdom. Far greater than the mere acquisition of information, the divine gift of wisdom allows us to discern truth from falsehood, and good from evil, in keeping on the prophetic path.

October 16 | The Temperance of Trials and Tribulations

Ustadha Hosai Mojaddidi

Premiering on YouTube at 6am PDT Saturday, October 16, 2021

The virtue of temperance involves moderation in all our actions and the exercise of restraint, patience, and forbearance when faced with provocation, oppression, or tribulation. The early Muslim community endured many hardships in Mecca while trying to teach others about Islam. The Prophet ﷺ suffered the immense loss of his beloved wife, Lady Khadija, and his beloved uncle, Abu Talib. This was followed by the tribulations he experienced in the city of Al-Ta’if. Despite these trials, he exhibited impeccable patience and restraint, surrendering only to God. Following his steadfast devotion, he was granted many openings. The Prophet’s exemplary response to every trial teaches us how to apply the virtue of temperance in our daily lives, thus drawing us closer to the divine.

October 30 | The Courage of Conviction in the Face of Conflict

Dr. Ali Ataie

Premiering on YouTube at 6am PDT Saturday, October 30, 2021

When facing an enemy nearly twice its size, the early community led by the Prophet ﷺ exhibited immense courage and conviction in the mission. Their unwavering support of God’s call was the secret to the victory in the Battle of Badr. Their trust in the divine plan made itself known through submission and obedience. However, as witnessed in the Battle of Uhud, disobedience to God and His Messenger ﷺ leads to tumult and defeat. The challenges our community faces are daunting, but we must have the courage to remain steadfast and cling to the prophetic path. Only then can we hope to overcome our difficulties and achieve success.

November 6 | A Just Society Infused with Compassion

Dr. Abdullah Ali

Premiering on YouTube at 6am PDT Saturday, November 6, 2021

Justice is the harmonious balance of all the other virtues, and no one manifested this harmony better than the Prophet ﷺ.  As a statesman and spiritual leader, he established law and order on a foundation of mercy and compassion. Personal wrongs and grievances were often forgiven, but communal infractions were punished to preserve social order. Examining this important nuance is critical for our communities today. Indeed, the pursuit of justice is a noble one, but we must understand and seek this through the prophetic lens.
