D in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilization at Harvard University. He has authored a number of articles on aspects of Classical Arabic literature and culture, and he teaches a survey of the canon of Arabic poetry from before Islam to the present day, as well as an undergraduate course on the “ethics of Jihad.” Zaytuna College, 2401 Le Conte Ave. Berkeley, CA 94709 Zaytuna College
