Zoe Two Day Family Camping Trip

This year Zaytuna is proud to offer a two-day family camping trip.

OVERVIEW

Overnight Camping Trip

Join us for a two-night family camping trip that will provide you with the basic skills to camp comfortably and responsibly. This trip will introduce participants to the beauty of the outdoors while also retaining some familiar comforts of home. 

Imam Dawood Yasin and Zaytuna faculty and student leaders will facilitate this program and provide participants with opportunities to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation.

ACTIVITIES

Participants will learn proper camp set up, safe fire building, and water procurement while enjoyingdelicious meals and spiritually uplifting programming. The two-night trip will include selected readings from the Qur'an, hadith, texts in the Islamic spiritual tradition and more.


WHAT TO EXPECT

For many people, the outdoors can be a daunting experience. This trip will help you open your heart to the majesty of the natural world.  You will also learn the basics of camping; practical necessities such as how to pack and plan for a family camping trip, selecting a campsite, setting up tents, procuring water, building a fire, the basics of hygiene and the fiqh of purity and prayer in the outdoors. 

You will also engage in reflecting upon previously selected passages, including verses from the Qur’an, selected hadith, and classical texts from the Islamic tradition.

Who? Open to the general public. No previous camping or backpacking experience required.

When? September 27-29, 2019

What are the spiritual teachings on the trip? The spiritual enrichment and study program will consist of a litany of remembrance in the morning (recitation of Surah Ya-Sin, morning wird), selected readings from the book The Book of Assistance (Imam Al-Haddad), an evening litany, fireside reflection, and selected readings from the Qur’an.

What is the minimum age for attendance? No minimum age. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

Is there financial aid available? No.

Do I have to be Muslim to attend? No, this program is open to all people interested in the outdoors.

Children 4 and under: Free
Adults ages 12 and older: $160.00 per person
Children ages 4-11: $140.00 per person
