In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Welcoming the New President of the Graduate Theological Union
August 6, 2020
Greetings of peace.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, and students of Zaytuna College, I want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Uriah Y. Kim for his new appointment as the ninth president of the Graduate Theological Union, our neighboring institution in Berkeley, CA.
We have been fortunate to have had good working relations with previous presidents of the GTU ever since Dr. James Donahue gave our very first convocation address in 2010. We look forward to continued strong ties with the GTU under Dr. Kim’s leadership, and offer our support and our sincere prayers for the ongoing success of such a vital institution.
These are troublesome times for our country with social upheavals and contentious discourse on important matters, all compounded by the pandemic, and our colleges and universities have not been immune to these challenges. It is also a time of great opportunity for institutions of higher education, especially for religious schools, as the great faith traditions of the world have much to offer in the form of guidance and wisdom in the navigation of these uncharted waters.
We are fortunate in Berkeley to have many of the great religious traditions represented on Holy Hill, and we look forward to working with the seminaries and graduate schools of the GTU in the coming years.
We sincerely wish the best for Dr. Kim in his new role and providential success in the numerous challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
